Both apps are free, with unlimited lists and no subscription. That's rare, and GiftList deserves credit for it. There's one wrinkle. GiftList's iOS listing carries a 'Contains Advertising' flag even though its marketing says ad-free. WishApp has no such flag and makes its money only through transparent affiliate links. Same price, then, and WishApp's promise holds up a little better.
Platforms are where the two apps split. GiftList is great on iPhone, with near-weekly updates and a polished redesign. Off the iPhone, things drop away quickly. The Android app sits at 50-plus installs and hasn't had a real update since May 2025, and the browser extension is Chrome-only, with 1,000 users. WishApp runs on iPhone, iPad, Android phone and tablet, macOS and Raycast, plus six browser extensions (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Firefox and Safari).
Both apps share with one link and let friends open the list without an account, and both hide reservations from the recipient. GiftList adds a nice twist, 'reveal on your terms,' where the owner decides when to see who gave what. In WishApp, reservations simply stay hidden. WishApp also has QR codes and 26 web languages. GiftList is English-only and, according to its App Store disclosure, collects contacts.
GiftList has one real advantage in this area. Givers can log order and tracking numbers inside a reservation, so the recipient has a rough idea of when a gift will turn up. WishApp can't do that. It covers more ground instead, with Secret Santa, several people co-managing one list, and a 'Received' archive where you can jot a note like 'from Sarah.' If your family swaps gifts all year, that range counts for more than tracking numbers.
GiftList's headline feature is Genie, a conversational AI that suggests real products with live prices from a catalog of 50,000 retailers. It's the most developed gift finder in this category, and it got GiftList a mention on the BBC. WishApp has no AI finder, so if that's what draws you, GiftList wins. To add items, GiftList uses a slick in-app browser, while WishApp fills in the details from any pasted link and saves in one click from its extension. Independent reviewers do call Genie's suggestions generic, so keep your expectations in check.
