GiftList vs. WishApp (2026 Comparison)

GiftList compared with WishApp, two wishlist apps side by side

GiftList is the Malibu-built wishlist app with a Genie AI gift finder and a slick in-app browser. Here is how it stacks up against WishApp on price, platforms, and the gifting features that actually decide which one you keep.

Last updated: June 2026

Looking for a GiftList alternative? GiftList is free, with a genuinely clever Genie AI gift finder and a polished iOS app. But it's Chrome-only, English-only, and its Android build has stalled. WishApp is free too, runs on 13 platforms with six browser extensions, and adds Secret Santa. Among GiftList alternatives, WishApp is the one we'd pick.

Every row reflects what each app actually does today. GiftList wins a few outright, so we marked those too.

A closer look

Pricing and value

Both apps are genuinely free, with unlimited lists and no subscription. That's rare, and GiftList deserves credit for it. One wrinkle: GiftList's iOS listing carries a 'Contains Advertising' flag even though the marketing says ad-free. WishApp carries no such flag and earns money purely through transparent affiliate links. Same price, slightly cleaner promise.

Platforms and devices

This is where the gap opens. GiftList is great on iPhone, with near-weekly updates and a polished redesign. Everywhere else it thins out fast. The Android app sits at 50-plus installs and hasn't had a real update since May 2025. The browser extension is Chrome-only, with 1,000 users. WishApp runs on iPhone, iPad, Android phone and tablet, macOS, Raycast, and six browser extensions: Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Firefox and Safari.

Sharing, privacy and reservations

Both apps share with one link and let friends reserve without an account, and both hide reservations from the recipient. GiftList does this with a nice twist: 'reveal on your terms,' where the owner chooses when to see who gave what. WishApp keeps reservations hidden permanently instead. WishApp also adds QR codes and 26 web languages, while GiftList is English-only and, per its App Store disclosure, collects contacts.

Gifting and group features

GiftList has one real edge here: givers can log order and tracking numbers inside a reservation, so a recipient roughly knows when a gift will arrive. WishApp doesn't do that. WishApp goes wider, though. It runs Secret Santa, lets several people co-manage one list, and keeps a 'Received' archive where you can jot a note like 'from Sarah.' For a family that swaps gifts all year, that breadth matters more than tracking numbers.

Ease of use and AI

GiftList's headline trick is Genie, a conversational AI that suggests real products with live prices, backed by a 50,000-retailer catalog. It's the most developed gift-finder in this category, and it got GiftList a BBC mention. WishApp has no AI finder, so if that's your draw, GiftList wins. For adding items, GiftList uses a slick in-app browser; WishApp auto-fills from any pasted link and saves in one click from its extension. Independent reviewers do flag Genie's suggestions as generic, so set expectations.

Which one is right for you?

Choose GiftList if…

  • You want an AI gift finder, and Genie's conversational suggestions with live prices are the feature you're really after.
  • You live on iPhone, where GiftList is polished and updated almost weekly.
  • You like browsing stores inside the app rather than pasting links, and want price comparisons before you save.
  • You want gift-givers to log tracking numbers, or you like controlling when gifts are revealed.

Choose WishApp if…

  • You use Android, Firefox, Safari, Edge, Brave, Opera, macOS or Raycast, where GiftList barely reaches or doesn't reach at all.
  • You want a confirmed no-ads, privacy-first app rather than one flagged 'Contains Advertising.'
  • You run Secret Santa, co-manage lists with family, or want a received archive with personal notes.
  • You shop or share in more than one language and want QR codes and any currency.
